3/29/05 — Jeff fished a couple that I met at the Red River Flyfishers seminar I did a while back, and had their adult son and his wife along for the ride. They wanted to start a little late because of some threatening weather, so JD headed out by himself because he was on the water early. The big fish were not up shallow yet, and didn’t want his topwater offering, but the time is drawing near. He smacked ‘em up in one of the big creeks while he was waiting, and when they loaded and left the dock, he headed right back to the same spot. They put about 30 in the boat, all on ReAxtion Sassys with a white bleeding head, while enjoying a laid back, not-too-serious kind of trip. Birds were working off & on, mostly on while they were docked for bathroom breaks or a picnic lunch. There was nothing real big today, but a bunch of good box fish and a couple of bonus bass.

3/27/06 — Mike fished a donated trip today that was auctioned off at last year’s fishfry for the 2005 fundraiser. He had Bob Bailey and two others in from Kansas, and the fishing was AWESOME! They caught about 100 fish, most from the area around the North Island. They did a lot of running early, and about 1:30 it really fired up. All of their fish came on ReAxtion Sassys and TNT slabs, and they topped out at about 12 pounds! Jeff had the day off to recover from a really busy run, and ended up going out to play-fish on second shift. He got on ‘em off of TI Point, and had them bustin’ the top all around the boat. He got ‘em on every cast for over an hour, and lost track of how many he caught and released ripping his Sassy just under the surface. The big ones were right at 10 pounds, and there were a number of those.

3/25/06 — This morning the Geezer Guys put together a fleet of about 12 boats to take out the “Wheelin’ Sportsmen”, a group of physically challenged anglers from Oklahoma City, most of whom were in wheelchairs. Jeff ramrodded the deal after a referral from Prunepicker, who was initially contacted by the sponsors, the National Wild Turkey Federation. We had ten boats volunteered for the event, and two that pitched in to handle the camera crews that were along to put together a show from the action they filmed. It was a great showing, and special THANKS need to go out to all the Geezer Guys that pitched in to get a group of really good folks out on the water. We all fished bait, and put a lot of fish in the boat, although the big ones were pretty elusive. The NWTF crew put together a Burger & Fixin’s cookout for all of us when we got in off of the water. Jeff & I both fished second shift trips, but with the weather change to bluebird skies, the late bite didn’t really rock like it has been. We got on a big school of deepwater fish in front of Mac Creek, but they were running like the wind, and we only managed a few before they were gone. Jeff got into some box fish up inside the creek, and slapped a number of them before the sun quit us for the night.

3/24/06 — Rod & I were out early looking for big fish up in shallow water. I broke off one real good one, and we picked up a few good box fish, but it was really pretty slow. After a mid-day nap, we hit it again at about 3:00, and just thrashed ’em. We were up near Caney Creek, and could do no wrong. Rod was hooking up on nearly every cast, and we wrapped it up at dark without a clue as to how many we put in the boat. Again, all of ’em came on ReAxtion Sassys in the 1 oz., 5 inch model, and again, only two out of the whole bunch were under 20, with nearly all others from 5-9 pounds. Jeff was out with three passengers early, and after a so-so start, got on them good right in front of The Cross in the early afternoon. They didn’t fill a limit, but put together a real nice box with all their overs and a bunch of fat box fish. Big fish of the day was put in the boat by 13 y/o Levi, his personal best, right at 10 pounds. They had their fill, and wrapped it up just as Rod & I were getting out. Mike had Linda & Larry Parish with him today, and they got ‘em pretty good off the North Island Ledge in about 25 feet of water. They were hooking up with both TNT slabs and ReAxtion Sassys, and topped out with one Larry bagged that was about 11 pounds.

3/23/06 — Jeff had regular repeat offender Dave Westin in the boat with him yesterday, and Dave and three of his buddies today. Yesterday started out pretty slow on the Sassys, and they ended up taking a mid-day break to warm up and get some lunch. They hit it again at about 2:30, and immediately got on a school of fish thrashing the 40-foot water near The Cross. It was non-stop, nearly every cast action until dark. All of them came on ReAxtion Sassys with both 4 and 5 inch bodies. Today we woke up to SNOW! After throwing his net for a couple of hours without results, they headed out at 10:00, and got about a dozen before it really lit up at 1:30. They stayed on top of one huge school in the same area as yesterday, and whacked ’em hard. They pulled the plug with over 40 in the boat, over half of them too big to keep. Sassys did it again! I got out on second shift with my brother-in-law Rod Romine, who is here from Minnesota with my sister Jill to get a taste of Texoma stripers. We started up near The Cross, but there was a lot of boat pressure, and the fish never really got it together. We ran over near Soldier Creek, and found them stacked 40 feet thick in 68 feet of water. Rod’s first striper was about 5 pounds, they just kept getting better. We kept four just over, and the only two unders we got, both right at 19.5 inches. ReAxtion Sassys with a 5 inch spiked Dayglo
